BLACKCAP Tom Latham smashed 5 sixes in the recent ODI at Eden Park, can you?
Dec 14, 2022If you thought ODIs and T20s delivered New Zealand’s most intense cricket moments, think again.
Home to cricket legends and history-making moments, Eden Park is once again opening its international wicket on Saturday 28 January to members of the public who think they’ve got what it takes to slog a six on the hallowed turf.
Together with the Alternative Commentary Collective (ACC) and Dulux, the annual Super BASH gives everyday cricketers the chance to face an over and try to smash a boundary to be crowned NZ’s Super Bash Champion; plus, there are heaps of prizes to be won!
Eden Park CEO, Nick Sautner said, “Super Bash redefines cricket history. It’s amazing how intense it can get out on the pitch as cricket batting wannabies try to match Martin Guptill when he hit his six onto the roof of Eden Park in 2016, or at least try and clear the rope. And having their mates, who get to come for free, standing on the outfield trying to catch them out brings a whole different level of intensity.
Eden Park is one of the only cricket venues around the world that gives die-hard cricket fans the chance to experience what it’s really like playing on an international wicket and prove that they’re just as good as our Black Caps.
“We give them the full experience – crowd noise [minus the fans and public lynching], their name up on the super screen, commentary from the infamous ACC on the loud speaker system and streaming worldwide. Plus, One NZ will be providing all batters ‘One More Ball’ and if they hit a six they’ll receive $100 cash.
ACC’s Jeremy Wells said “The ACC bloody loves an underdog so to give the cricketing Weekend Warrior, like me, a chance to bat on an international wicket and attempt to smash some sixes in front of mates is potentially the greatest cricketing gift anyone can get Christmas.”
Dulux is pleased to support the Dulux Super Bash in its second year at Eden Park. Last year was a great event, with the challenge of hitting six at Eden Park. Facing six balls from the bowling machine at 125km/hour was an experience in itself for many, but being able to do so in the middle of Eden Park was a once-in-a-lifetime event.
Everyone who took part absolutely loved it, and many lined up for another over. The atmosphere and competition were fantastic, and something you don’t want to miss out on.
Nick Sautner adds, “Last year we had a huge number of people have a go at hitting a six. We want to thank all our partners – Dulux, Kookaburra, and ACC for helping us bring this event to life once again.”
The Super Bash takes place on 28 January 2023. Find out more and book your tickets here.
