Huge crowd expected to watch the Phoenix play at Eden Park as they hope to maintain their unbeaten record at The Fortress
Mar 14, 2024New Zealand’s national stadium, Eden Park is gearing up to host a record-breaking Nix crowd as the Wellington Phoenix takes on Sydney FC this weekend, especially with the Nix hoping to maintain their unbeaten record at The Fortress.
Nick Sautner, Eden Park CEO, said, “It’s fantastic to welcome the Phoenix back to Eden Park. This will be one of the biggest Phoenix matches ever and we’re expecting a huge crowd of passionate football fans and sports lovers to be in the stands getting behind their favourite team.
“It’s shaping up to be a special game and an unforgettable experience – not only because its the Nix’s final home match in Auckland for the season and the 12th time they’ve played on our hallowed turf, but also because they’ve never lost a game at The Fortress.
“With family-friendly match timing (gates open at 4pm and kick-off is at 5.30pm) the match will be perfect for fans of all ages to attend and will enable the entire football community to get behind the Phoenix and make sure they take home yet another win.
“Football is one of our country’s most popular sports, and over the past few years, we’ve been delighted with the huge increase in the number of people attending a football game at Eden Park. The FIFA Women’s World Cup saw over 350,000 people through our gates for the nine matches, and we’ve had record crowds at All Whites, Football Ferns and Wellington Phoenix games,” said Mr Sautner.
