Eden Park’s hallowed turf turns into a golfer’s paradise for the Powerade G9 tournament
Dec 13, 2022Keen on a round of golf at Eden Park? Golf enthusiasts are being urged to get in quick to book a tee time for the annual 3-day Powerade G9 tournament taking place between 31 Jan – 2 Feb at Eden Park.
2023 is the 6th year the internationally recognised golf tournament will be played at New Zealand’s national stadium, where head course designer Blair Christiansen and his talented maintenance team transform the hallowed turf into a unique nine-hole golf course.
Eden Park CEO, Nick Sautner said, “G9 is an incredibly popular event amongst seasoned golfers, casual hackers, and mini-putt specialists. With only 1,080 tee times available, we’re encouraging players to go online and secure their booking before all the spots fill up.
“There are a heap of prizes on offer for individuals and teams including Eden Park memberships. Like previous years, players can purchase the ‘golden ball’ for $20 which gives them extra balls to use in a second attempt on four holes, so they can better their score.
“Just like a golf course, every hole in the G9 is completely different, some more challenging than others. Aside from trying to sink a putt in the players changing room, probably one of the most frustrating holes to play is from the top of the East stand. With over 100m to the pin and from a height of over five stories, players need to hit it long, try not to loft it too much and shouldn’t underestimate the impact the stadium’s challenging microclimate has on accuracy.
“Tickets to this unique event would make a great Xmas gift for anyone passionate about golf,” said Nick Sautner.
The Powerade G9 is open for individuals and teams who tee off from nine different locations around Eden Park. The Jameson’s Clubhouse will be serving a variety of refreshments, including cocktails, throughout the four-day event.
