Eden Park celebrates Coldplay with unique Otis Frizzell artwork

Nov 12, 2024

Eden Park and the New Zealand Herald have unveiled a bespoke artwork by celebrated Kiwi artist Otis Frizzell, featuring on today’s Herald front page to commemorate Coldplay’s three landmark concerts at New Zealand’s national stadium.

The commissioned piece reimagines New Zealand’s geography through Coldplay’s iconic discography, with song titles carefully mapped to reflect the character of different locations across the country.

“The inspiration came after experiencing a creative Transport For London initiative at a Taylor Swift concert in London, where they redesigned the Tube Map using album titles and song names,” says Eden Park CEO Nick Sautner. “We immediately saw an opportunity to create something similarly special for Coldplay’s arrival in New Zealand.”

The artwork represents a unique collaboration between music and visual arts, capturing both Coldplay’s global influence and New Zealand’s distinctive cultural landscape. Each location on the map has been thoughtfully paired with a Coldplay song title, creating a meaningful connection between the band’s music and New Zealand’s towns and cities.

“As New Zealand’s national stadium, Eden Park has always been a cornerstone of memorable cultural moments,” adds Sautner. “These Coldplay concerts will add another significant chapter to our venue’s rich history, bringing together New Zealanders through the universal languages of music and art.”
