The BLACKCAPS and India will play two blockbuster matches at Eden Park this year, with New Zealand Cricket confirming a T20 International will be played on Friday 30 October and a One Day International on Wednesday 4 November.
Eden Park Chief Executive Officer, Nick Sautner, said the return of the BLACKCAPS for two games against India was a major moment for Auckland and for cricket fans across the country.
“Hosting India at New Zealand’s national stadium is always a special occasion, and these two fixtures will make for a huge week of cricket in Auckland.
“India brings a level of passion, colour and energy that is unmatched in world cricket, and we’re expecting an incredible atmosphere across both match days.
The BLACKCAPS and India last met at Eden Park in November 2022, when New Zealand won the ODI by 7 wickets.
“We know the demand will be significant, so we encourage fans to register early through Cricket Nation to ensure they are among the first to hear about pre-sale opportunities,” said Mr Sautner.
BLACKCAPS batter Mark Chapman said Eden Park is a special venue for the team and for Auckland fans.
“Eden Park is one of my favourite grounds to play at.
“I watched lots of matches at Eden Park growing up and to now be out there playing for the BLACKCAPS on that stage is special.
“It’s certainly a unique ground and as a player you have to adjust. I’ve enjoyed my time playing there and it’s pretty cool to perform in front of your home crowd in your home city.
“The atmosphere is always amazing, the crowd feel like they’re on top of you and it gets loud.
“Knowing all the fandom and excitement that comes with India – I’m sure it’s going to be electric for their two matches and something not to miss.”
NZC Chief Marketing and Commercial Officer, Glenn Critchley, was pleased to confirm international cricket for Kiwis up and down the country.
“It’s going to be another exciting summer, and we’re delighted to be able to bring 41 days of international cricket to Kiwi cricket fans across eight cities,” he said.
Critchley singled out the India tour as a once in a generation opportunity.
“When it comes to cricket – it simply doesn’t get bigger than India and we’re determined to deliver New Zealanders a tour like no other.
“This will be about more than just the cricket on the field – it will be a celebration of New Zealand’s shared history and culture with India, and our burgeoning rivalry and friendship through cricket.
“The passion and the following this team has is staggering – not to mention some of the players expected to tour such as Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah – so we’re bracing for the intensity and fandom that will accompany the tour.
“Experiencing the noise, colour and atmosphere of an Indian cricket international is a bucket-list event and I’d encourage the kiwi public to take up the opportunity to witness it first-hand.
“We’re expecting all of these games to sell out – so we’re urging fans to register for their tickets during the pre-sale window to avoid disappointment.”
