An update on COVID-19

AA Insurance is a proud partner of Eden Park and has been consistently recognised by: Reader’s Digest Most Trusted Brands (since 2011), IBM Kenexa Best Workplaces Survey (since 2008), Canstar Blue Most Satisfied Customers (2013-2018), and the Colmar Brunton Corporate Reputation Index (since 2015) that recognises New Zealand’s most successful companies.

To celebrate one year of being a proud partner of Eden Park, in June of 2019 AA Insurance launched its Big Little Sponsorship campaign. With both AA Insurance and Eden Park focussed on creating opportunities to benefit the greater good, the opportunity was discussed to create the ‘The Big Little Sponsorship – a Big Deal for Little Teams’ and from here it was formed and agreed on collaboratively. Internally at both AA Insurance and Eden Park banded together to ensure the campaign was well-supported and the messaging from both parties was in sync.

Nominations opened for Auckland primary schools that might need a boost to help shape some of New Zealand’s sporting heroes of the future. Up for grabs was a very unique prize package, which included $10,000 worth of sports gear, a field upgrade by the Eden Park groundies, a visit from rugby legend Keven Mealamu and a VIP tour of Eden Park. A huge response was received over six weeks with teachers, parents and even a group of students submitting a total of 852 nominations for 160 primary schools from all over Auckland.

Grass roots sport is a staple for Kiwi kids growing up in New Zealand and allowing children to participate in sport and recreation is a great way to learn about fair play and keep active. A Physical Activity for Kids report created by the Ministry of Education and Sport New Zealand recognised the important role schools play in getting kids involved with sport. The report noted that because nearly all children and young people attend school, the school community is one of their key providers of physical activity experiences. Schools have unique opportunities to provide adequate physical activity for all young people on an equal basis through official compulsory physical education programmes as well as through school sport programmes and after school leisure-time physical activity initiatives.

By celebrating grass roots level sport with our Big Little Sponsorship competition our winners, Papakura Normal School, will now be able to boast their own sports initiatives within the school and create more opportunities for students to get involved and excited about sport.
